Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction Spring 2025
Considered one of the greatest teams in NHL history with a roster that included ten future Hall of Famers, the Detroit Red Wings were President's Trophy winners in 2001-02, finishing first overall in the NHL. Defeating Vancouver and St Louis before being tested by Colorado with a series that went seven games, the boys from Motor City met the Carolina Hurricanes in the Stanley Cup final, and lost just a single game en route to victory. Apparently obtained from an unidentified Red Wings staff member years ago according to our consignor, this 2001-02 Stanley Cup championship trophy was produced by Boffey, and is the same as the examples awarded to each member of the Detroit Red Wings by the NHL in a tradition dating back to 1958. Standing a majestic 13” and mounted to a wooden base with brown felt underside, the names of the men who made it happen are engraved in three rows beneath the team executives, with “Detroit Red Wings” and “2001-02” engraved above. Regarding condition, there is a light and even coat of patina throughout, with a bit of surface wear from handling. With no large dents or obtrusive marks visible, the trophy displays beautifully, with just a few tiny blemishes including a scratch across "Bob" of pro scout "Bob McCammon".
