Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction June 2025
Another banner year for the Detroit Red Wings, with their 1956-57 campaign baring witness to a first (1st) place finish that earned the franchise a Prince of Wales Trophy while additional hardware included the Hart Memorial Trophy, won by perennial Red Wing Gordie Howe who lead the NHL in both goals and points. Offered here, we present this stick that has been team-signed by twenty-one (21) members of the 1956-57 Detroit Red Wings. A Hedlund youth model that measures out to roughly 48” in length, vintage black tape appears wrapped around the front section of the blade, with loose strands present along while a pair of mostly intact red striping accents appear over the lower shaft. Stamped with "Sport Hedlund" over both sides of the shaft and with "LIE No. 5 N" over the top side of the upper shaft, some dark marks appear over both sides of the heel and blade along with some minor discolouration from liquid staining. With all the signatures having been signed over one side of the stick, those that have signed include HOFers Gordie Howe and Marcel Pronovost, along with Hall, Lindsay, Ullman, Delvecchio, Kelly and Johnny Bucyk as well as others such as Ferguson, Reibel, Prystai, Pavelich, McNeill, Dineen, Anderson and Al Arbour. All displaying well and having been signed in black pen ink, only a few exhibit light fading, while the stick itself remains in very good condition. The Red Wings would finish the 1956-57 NHL season with an impressive record of 38 wins, 20 losses and 12 ties.
