Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2020
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 10/21/2020
First playing organized hockey in the mid-1890s alongside Mike Grant on the Montreal “Young Crystals”, Richard Robinson “Dickie” Boon starred for the famous Montreal AAA’s “winged wheelers” in the early-1900s, winning a pair of Stanley Cup championships before helping to found the Montreal Wanderers. Originating from the incomparable autograph collection of E. Robert Hamlyn, we have a typed letter signed by the early superstar. At 7 ¼” x 10” and on Boon’s personal stationary, the April 23, 1953 correspondence has the six-time Stanley Cup champion apologizing for erroneously sending a photo intended for Jack Marshall to the wrong party. Boon has added a flawless blue ballpoint signature, and it displays beautifully. Receiving HOF enshrinement a year before this letter was signed in 1952, Boon passed at age 83, in 1961.
With absolutely no issues for the signature, the letter itself shows just light wear, with pair of horizontal fold lines. There are also holes punched along the top section to facilitate binder insertion.
