Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction June 2025
Perhaps still the most popular player to ever don the pinstripes of the New York Yankees after "The Great Bambino" Babe Ruth, Mickey Mantle would be a staple in the Bronx Bombers lineup between 1951 and 1968 and helped the Yankees to seven (7) World Series championships over the course of his career. Names the American League MVP on three (3) occasions and winning the fabled Triple Crown in 1956, Mantle would be inducted into the hallowed halls of Cooperstown in 1974, his first year on the ballot. Passing away thirty (30) years ago in 1995, offered here is this pair of cards which were signed by Mantle during his appearance at the 1976 edition of the Canadian National Exhibition. Each measuring 4" x 6" and reading "I Met Mickey Mantle at the Labatt's Baseball Pavilion - 1976 Canadian National Exhibition" a line in the centre of each card has been signed by Mantle with either a blue ballpoint pen ink or pencil signature. With Toronto having just been awarded an American League expansion franchise a few months prior to the 1976 CNE, the cards are found to be in overall good condition for their efforts, with one removed from a folder with photo corners that has resulted in some yellowing. With both also showing some minor handling wear to their corners, edges and surfaces, one of the cards also shows some tape residue and paper loss spots at the corners on its reverse side. Both autographs display well for their effort despite some fading from age and would make excellent candidates to be used as cut signatures. A JSA Auction LOA will accompany the lot.
