Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction February 2025
The late, great Gordie Howe had an incredibly long hockey career that saw him play his final NHL game in 1980 at the age of 52. While his name is synonymous with the number 9, Gordie started out wearing No. 17 when he made his NHL debut with the Detroit Red Wings as an 18-year-old in 1946. This limited edition signed Howe jersey celebrates Gordie’s big NHL firsts, his first game, first goal and first two fights when the Wings hosted the Toronto Maple Leafs at the Olympia on October 16, 1946. Gordie’s elegant signature with the annotation “1946” below it, all in bold black marker, grace the top of the “7” on the back of this No. 17 Howe Red Wings jersey. “First NHL Game & Goal October 16, 1946” are embroidered on the tail along with details of the game noting that Howe wore No. 17, and his NHL rookie and career stats. “Limited edition: 16/17” is embroidered on the white hem of this CCM Vintage Red Wings jersey with size XL flag tag in the neck and tags attached to the left sleeve cuff.
