Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction February 2025
Recognized as the sport’s premier broadcaster and serving as Hockey Night in Canada’s first play-by-play announcer, Canadian icon Foster Hewitt was part of the opening night ceremonies for Maple Leaf Gardens in 1931, and covered NHL contests for forty years. This document has been signed by the HOFer. On Maple Leaf Gardens letterhead and dated February 28 of 1941, the document appears to be an expense report for $44 worth of hockey tickets for the account of Beehive and Alka Seltzer radio ads. Hewitt’s wonderful penmanship is on full display in his bold black fountain pen signature below his handwritten, “Radio O.K.” notation. With a small rust stain and tiny holes where a staple was removed from the top left corner, the signed document is stamped “Paid” with cheque number and payment date handwritten in pencil.
