Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction February 2025
Not just any Art Ross autograph, the Hall of Famer's original fountain pen signature appears at the bottom of his letter to Ronald "Peaches" Lyon. Typed on Boston Bruins letterhead bearing the names of Ross and Charles Adams on its masthead, the October 8, 1930 letter from Ross to Lyon notifying him that he will soon receive his travel arrangements to Boston from the team. Adams even encouraged Lyon, who lived in Portage La Prairie, Manitoba, to get a new pair of "Tackaberry shoes" from nearby Brandon and charge them to the Bruins' account. How cool is that! The beige letterhead has its original creases from being mailed in an envelope and a number of staple holes along the top edge. Otherwise, it remains in excellent condition overall, with a bit of aging of the paper along the lower right edge to note. Lyon played 14 games with the Bruins before he was dealt to the Philadelphia Quakers. What a unique way to add Art Ross' autograph to your collection!
