Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction February 2025
Drafted in the third (3rd) round of the 1988 Major League Baseball Draft by the Toronto Blue Jays, David Weathers would enjoy a lengthy career in the MLB, making his debut for the Blue Jays in 1991 and playing nearly 1000 games over the course of his career. Winning a World Series as a member of the New York Yankees in 1996, Weathers would pitch in a total of fifteen (15) games during his first year in the league, helping the Blue Jays to an American League East Division title that same year. Offered here, we present this batting practice/spring training style jersey worn by Weathers during the season. A midweight mesh construction offering made by Wilson, a brand label displaying a size "44" designation is affixed to the inner collar while a sewn on swatch underneath it reads "53 91" for the player and year. Accented around the cuffs and collar with a knitted striping pattern, the front of the jersey has been decorated with "Blue Jays" in individually sewn on dual layer blue-over-white tackle twill letters that have been added in a gentle arch while a large Blue Jays logo crest is found underneath and displays heavily embroidered details. Having had Weathers' number "53" added over the reverse in matching style numerals, the jersey shows light wear via some staining over the front as well as some marks and a small hole/rip over the front plus some staining/marks in the striping accent of the left cuff and collar.
