Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction February 2025
Reaching the absolute pinnacle of his sport as a Stanley Cup champion with the mighty Montreal Canadiens during the glorious Original Six era in both 1965 and 1966, Dave Balon was later honoured for his career with enshrinement in the Prince Albert Sports Hall of Fame in 1990 and The Saskatchewan Sports Hall of Fame in 2001. From his personal collection, we have Balon's Prince Albert Sports HOF medal and induction program, Saskatchewan HOF framed certificate and induction programs (4), scrapbooks, a telegram sent to Balon just before the start of the 1965 Stanley Cup finals, snapshot photos including Bobby Orr, Brad Park, Vic Hadfield, Henri Richard and others, a collection of vintage magazines, and more! The medal is 2 1/2" in diameter with the HOF logo and the original red, white and blue ribbon attached, while the induction programs all have Balon listed. The certificate is approx 11" x 14", with the text to include, "This is to certify that Dave Balon has been nominated and accepted into the Saskatchewan Hall of Fame". The snapshot photos total 24 and mostly show family images, with a few showing players off the ice including the aforementioned individuals. The scrapbooks all have newspaper clippings from his minor league and NHL days, and the magazines include 1966 Houston Astrodome yearbook, 1969 NY Mets World Series Program and two early-1970s hockey magazines with Balon articles. An LOA from Classic Auctions will accompany.
