Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction February 2025
Assembled during his NHL days with the Montreal Canadiens in the mid-1960s, we offer a pair of scrapbooks from the personal collection of four-time NHL All-Star Dave Balon, with a number of interesting items included. Both large in size and loaded with newspaper clippings, one scrapbook has a dinner/dance program from an evening where Frank J Selke was honoured in 1966, along with a ticket to the event and an invitation card, with the program signed on the cover by Selke along with fellow deceased HOFer Rocket Richard, while the other scrapbook has a copy of a telegram sent to Hartland Molson by Prime Minister Pearson in regards to the Canadiens Game 7 loss in the Stanley Cup semifinals in 1964. There is also a detached scrapbook page with attached Canadiens Christmas card signed by Toe Blake, a second loose Canadiens Christmas card also signed by Blake, a Selke Testimonial Dinner program from 1965, a typed 1964 letter on Canadiens letterhead addressed to Balon and signed by Selke, and three additional letters on Canadiens letterhead addressed to Balon (one has a printed Selke signature, and one has a secretarial signature). An LOA from Classic Auctions will accompany.
