Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Spring 2021
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/30/2021
Joining once again, in collaboration with the Montreal Canadiens, Classic Auctions is pleased to offer a large collection of artifacts and memorabilia from the storied club's comprehensive archives. A number of historic specimens direct from the famous team including unique displays that were once marvelously displayed in the hallowed Montreal Forum and later at the Bell Centre are available, with an endless array of legendary and monumental players featured that all proudly once donned the sacred jersey of the mighty Montreal Canadiens.
Seeing action in parts of two seasons with the Quebec Nordiques during the mid-1980s as a player, Claude Julien first started coaching in the Q before serving as the head coach of the Montreal Canadiens for three seasons beginning in 2002-03. Currently retaining the head coach position, Julien’s second stint in Montreal began with the 2016-17 NHL season. Originally displayed at the Bell Centre, we have a framed painting of the Blind River native. At approx 11” x 15” and executed in water colours, Julien is beautifully depicted, with his name and tenure listed on the matte (the painting was done before his second coaching stint). The artist has signed within the lower right, with the work double-matted and framed to approx 19” x 23”. The unique painting is flawless, with some wear to the frame including a few blemishes, with the backing somewhat loose. An LOA from Classic Auctions will be included.
