The New York Islanders’ Stanley Cup successes came to an end in 1984 as Wayne Gretzky and the Edmonton Oilers spoiled the Isles’ attempt to make it five consecutive Cup triumphs, but New York’s 4-games-to-2 win over Montreal in the Wales Conference finals earned each team member a personal Prince of Wales Trophy like this. Veteran left winger Clark Gillies, who contributed 12 playoff goals, has his name engraved along with that of the trophy on a metal plaque applied to one side of the 2-inch high wooden base here, while engraving on the opposite side's plaque reads "NHL Champions – New York Islanders 1983-84." Four silver-plated hockey sticks rise up from the base to support a cup with removable lid, giving the award a total height of 13". Some minor tarnish, mostly on the upper part of the bowl, is to report, along with Gillies’ nice blue sharpie autograph on the green felt underneath the base. The four-time Stanley Cup champ will also sign an LOA to be included.
