Hockey Memorabilia Auction - Spring 2008

This spectacular studio-mounted image presented to Clark Gillies by the New York Islanders shows the franchise’s first Stanley Cup-winning team. Beautifully framed, this exquisite team issued photo remains in amazing condition with the team’s hard-won hardware – the Conn Smythe Trophy at winner Bryan Trottier’s feet along with the Stanley Cup – displayed in clear detail. Captain Denis Potvin sits beside general manager Bill Torrey, whose team embarked on what would prove to be a run of four consecutive championships. Featuring young talents Mike Bossy and John Tonelli, the Islanders came together after Torrey added sparkplug Butch Goring in a late-season trade with Los Angeles. Bearded defenseman Ken Morrow stands in the middle of the frame, having added a Stanley Cup conquest to his resume mere months after he was part of Team U.S.A.’s Miracle on Ice Olympic win at Lake Placid. The Islanders beat Los Angeles, Boston and Buffalo to reach the finals before Bob Nystrom scored the Game 6 overtime winner over Philadelphia to set off pandemonium in the Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum. Clark Gillies’ signed letter of authenticity is included. Addendum; Oversized team photo is framed up to 19 x 26 inches.
