This is the striking orange jersey Clark Gillies wore for the Campbell Conference in the 1978 NHL All-Star game at Buffalo. Gillies, the prototypical power forward, played with teammates Bryan Trottier and Mike Bossy on an all-Islanders line for Campbell All-Stars, who fell 3-2 to the Wales Conference on Gilbert Perreault’s overtime winner against Billy Smith, an unpopular MVP choice among the hometown fans. Trimmed in white and black, this highly sought-after size 50 jersey features its original size tag on the neck above the Gerry Cosby manufacturer’s tag. Gillies’ surname is sewn on in individual letters above his No. 9 on the back. As is customary with a single-use jersey, there is virtually no sign of game use on this impeccable vintage All-Star sweater, which Gillies is wearing in the official team photo. He has signed the back of the photo “Clark Gillies #9 HHOF 02” clearly with a blue sharpie. Clark Gillies’ signed letter of authenticity is included with this lot.
