The New York Islanders continued to improve in 1978-79, bettering team records with 51 wins and 116 points, their point total a whopping 21 ahead of the Flyers and earning them their second consecutive Campbell Conference title. Clark Gillies’ reputation as a premier power forward grew, his 35 goals and 91 points placing him tied for ninth place in league scoring. Linemate Bryan Trottier claimed the scoring title, Mike Bossy had a prolific 69-goal sophomore season and Gillies, Trottier and Denis Potvin were named to the NHL’s First All-Star Team. New York team members received personal miniatures like this one. A silver-plated handled cup with removable lid sits atop a six-sided 3-inch high wooden base and is engraved “New York Islanders 1978-79 Clark Gillies” on one side, with the name of the trophy and an erroneous "1966" year of inception on the other. From Clark Gillies’ personal collection and in excellent condition with only slight silver loss to mention, the trophy is autographed on the bottom of the base and will come with Clark’s signed LOA.
