Hockey Memorabilia Auction - Spring 2008
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/10/2008
Here’s a real uniform rarity, Clark Gillies’ game issued jersey for the 1977 NHL All-Star Game in Vancouver that never actually appeared in the game. Gillies had established himself as one of the best young left wings in hockey when he was named to the Campbell Conference team as a second team selection. Unfortunately for Gillies, who would have joined Eric Vail of the Atlanta Flames and Don Murdoch of the New York Rangers as Campbell All-Star rookies, he pulled himself off the roster because of sickness and was replaced by Islanders teammate Bob Nystrom. This vintage white dureen size 50 jersey with orange and black trim has its original sizing tag attached along with the Gerry Cosby manufacturers tag. Gillies’ surname is sewn on in individual letters above his No. 9 on the back. This lot also includes NHL executive director Brian O’Neill’s signed original letter to Gillies notifying him of his official selection as a member of the Campbell Conference All-Star team along with the vintage NHL official news release indicating Gillies’ being named to the Campbell Conference All-Star team. The first of Clark Gillies’ NHL All-Star sweaters, it comes along with his signed letter of authenticity.
