Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction Spring 2025
Winning a Stanley Cup championship in 2007 with Anaheim, Chirs Kunitz was fortuitously traded to the Pittsburgh Penguins mid-season in 2008-09 along with prospect Eric Tangradi for defenceman Ryan Whitney. Playing in just 20 regular season games with the Pens that season, Kunitz would help the club with 14 points during the playoffs en route to a Stanley Cup championship - his second in three seasons. From the championship season of 2008-09, we offer a Penguins throwback alternate jersey worn by Kunitz. A Reebok made offering, a single size “56” tag has been affixed to the inner collar while the crests of both the NHL shield and Reebok adorn the front and back necklines of the tie-neck garment respectively. Decorated over the front with a vintage style Penguins team crest that features embroidered details, the sleeves and verso have been accented with "14” in dual layer tackle twill numerals, with “Kunitz” spelt out in matching material across the affixed nameplate. Equipment manager Dana Heinze has signed the fight strap. Worn briefly, there is just light wear to the jersey including a dark mark on the right sleeve. There is also some pilling to the left cuff. The team patch resides on the inside hem, with a COA from the Penguins to accompany.
