Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction November 2024
Tied with the legendary Gordie Howe for most NHL seasons played all-time with 26, Chris Chelios appeared in more NHL regular-season games than any defenseman in history. Suiting up for a total of 1651 National Hockey League games as well as numerous others with his native United States in international competition, Chelios would win Stanley Cup's with Montreal in 1986 and with Detroit in 2002 and 2008. Inducted into both the Hockey Hall of Fame and IIHF Hall of Fame, offered here is this Red Wings jersey worn by Chelios during the 2007-08 season. Made by Reebok and sporting a lone size "54" label affixed to the inner collar, crests for both the NHL and Reebok have been added over the front and reverse necklines respectively. Decorated over the front of the jersey with Detroit's iconic winged wheel team crest that features embroidered details throughout its entirety, the sleeves and verso have been styled with Chelios' number "24" in single layer tackle twill numerals. Displaying "Chelios" spelt out in single layer red twill letters that have been affixed directly to the material of the jersey over the upper reverse in a gentle arch, the interior retains its original fight strap as well as a Red Wings team tag that denotes the piece as being a "2007-2008 Authentic Game Jersey 2nd Set" example. Showing with light but still clear game-wear including light board burns over both sleeves, staining over both shoulders, a pair of team repairs above the left elbow, a small unrepaired cut at the right elbow and some fabric pulls throughout, it is also worth noting that there is some very light red colour bleed in areas from numerous washings. Accompanied by a Red Wings COA, Getty Image #80548963 (April 2nd, 2008 vs Chicago) appears to show a possible match to the little bit of loose red stitching at the top edge of the "2" on the reverse but is not clear/close enough for us to call it a definitive photo-match.
