Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Winter 2019
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/26/2019
An icon within American culture and the most beloved individual to ever swing a bat, we have a great collection of Babe Ruth items totaling 7, spanning from the 1920s to 1960s. Included, we have sheet music, with “Babe Ruth, Babe Ruth We Know What He Can Do” from 1928 and “Safe at Home” from 1948. This is followed by a New York Journal scorecard from circa-1930 (5 ¼” x 9”), scored for a contest against Washington, with both Ruth and Gehrig listed. Next, we have a newsprint ad for a Reach Babe Ruth signature model glove from 1929, a GoodYear “Scoreboard” advertising pamphlet from 1928 with Ruth on the cover (8 ½” x 11” – with the original envelope), a mounted photo of an elderly Ruth with girl from the Sporting News Collection (7” x 10”) and a copy of the vinyl record “A Tribute to Babe Ruth”.
The 1928 and 1948 sheet music remains in stunning high grade condition, with just light wear to the scorecard and Reach ad. The GoodYear booklet shows heavy toning along with a few wrinkles and fold lines, with moderate to heavy wear to the photo including creases, with staining and faded pencil notations to the mount. Lastly, the Ruth record is brittle and cracked, unable to be played.
