Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction February 2018
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/27/2018
Just the 2nd and 3rd Canadian Grand Prix to have World Championship status, both the 1968 and 1969 Player’s Formula One Grand Prix races consisted of 90 laps, with sixth-position starter Denny Hulme of McLaren Racing securing first place in 1968, and Belgian Brabham-Ford driver Jacky Ickx capturing the checkered flag in 1969. We have a pair of scarce original Player’s advertising signs for both races. At a matching 20” x 28”, each hard stock cardboard display with glossy front features wonderful graphics and imagery, with both the dates and venues listed, along with the sanctioning groups. Each also originally sported easel backs for display (currently removed – with some cardboard pieces still affixed).
Each display exhibits wear to the surface and corners including some minor spotting, with pinholes along the top section present as well. There is also water staining to the reverse of each, with the lower front corner affected on the 1969 example, with a small piece missing along the top center of the 1968 poster.
