Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction February 2018
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/27/2018
Going the distance during the 1983 NHL playoffs, Paul Coffey and the Edmonton Oilers would meet the perennial champions and playoff juggernaut New York Islanders in the Stanley Cup finals, with this match-up foreshadowing the following year’s final that witnessed Edmonton winning their first Stanley Cup. We have a signed stick used by Coffey during the 1983 playoffs. A Sher-Wood PMP 5030 model, “Coffey 7” has been stamped-on, with a date code of “14 Avr 1983” appearing in red along the underside, with the lumber retaining its original white tape over the blade and black over the custom-shaved knob and handle. The date of April 14 is important, as it guarantees production and use during the Stanley Cup playoffs! A signed LOA from Paul Coffey will accompany.
Coffey has added a dedicated signature in ballpoint on the front side of the shaft, with a notation on the opposite side in an unknown hand that states “Best of luck in the scoring race next year, say hi to Wayne for me". Game-use is moderate on the lumber, with wear including a light separation along the underside of the blade, with additional wear on both sides of the shaft.
