Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Winter 2019
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/26/2019
A first-place finish at the conclusion of the 1940-41 NHL season with only 8 losses, the Boston Bruins would slip past the Maple Leafs before cruising to a 4-games-straight Stanley Cup finals win over Detroit. Originating from the personal collection of Milt Schmidt and acquired directly from his family, we have a collection of signed Bruins mini-photos from 1940-41 that have been affixed to scrapbook pages, along with a framed panorama photo of a combined dinner between the Bruins and Melrose High School hockey team in 1941. Thirteen small photos (likely clipped from a program or publication) of Bruins players are affixed to 6 scrapbook pages (along with other newsprint clippings), with each signing over his image including Schmidt, with fellow deceased HOFers Cowley, Bauer and Woody Dumart, along with Wiseman, Conacher, Jackson, Hollett, Cain, Smith, Reardon, Crawford and Mel “Sudden Death” Hill. An LOA from the Schmidt family will accompany.
The small signed pictures could all be cropped and added to a single display if so desired, with the majority of the signatures displaying especially well. We should also note that an original handwritten letter dated “10/31/67” is included, addressed to the Boston Bruins and Milt, mentioning that these pages were actually part of a scrapbook the letter writer’s mother kept, and was sent to the Bruins in case they had any interest in it, and apparently, Milt did, keeping it in his personal collection. The Bruins/Melrose High School team photo is approx 7” x 14” (exposed), framed to full dimensions of roughly 10 ½” x 17 ½”, with white text relating the particulars including the April 14th 1941 date. Team members are visible including Art Ross, with just expected wear to the glass and frame.
