Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction June 2017

The 2003 season was a trying one for both Jacques and the Lucky Strike BAR Honda team; they had chosen to use Bridgestone tires which turned out to be very uncompetitive. Jacques also spent most of the season in contract negotiations which ultimately lead to his replacement for the last race of the season. In his last season with BAR Honda, Jacques managed 6 top 10 finishes with a best placing of 6th at the Italian Grand Prix. This relegated him to 16th overall in the 2003 World Championship.
This Bell K1 helmet was painted by Bell Racing Europe and is tagged 2003-12. It is photo-matched to the 2003 Italian Grand Prix held at Monza on September 14, 2003. That weekend, which was one of Jacques’ best that season, saw him qualifying 10th and finishing 10th. The helmet shows tremendous wear inside and out. The drink tube was drilled out and the lower vents have been taped off. Extra eye-port foam has been added and Villeneuve has signed the plastic film on top of the attached tear-offs. A custom wing was added by Bell staff for aerodynamics and can be photo-matched to a number of images from the weekend. The interior neck roll was removed and most likely re-used in another helmet but it doesn’t take anything away from this stunning display piece.
Also included is the original Bell carrying bag with “J.V. 03-12” handwritten annotations. This item is from Jacques Villeneuve’s personal collection and will come with his signed LOA.
