Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction February 2018

The oh so coveted and in-demand rookie card of the great Bobby Orr offered here is much nicer to look at than a multi-creased example, or one with rounded/worn corners. The front displays as VG-EX, with however glue and damage on the back sending its technical grade way down. Meanwhile, the rest of the set, at first glance, is rather light on obvious creases and dominated by decent VG, VG+ and VG-EX cards. However, upon close inspection, some 60 cards are affected by very subtle back damage, with evidence of once having been stored in a photo album, with one or two corner regions slightly discolored by those old photo album “corners”. Keys, (without the aforementioned), include 112-Hull (VG-EX), 109-Howe (VG) and 121-Howe AS (VG+), with the rest averaging VG to VG+. One checklist (#66) is creased/marked while the other (#120) is crease-free and unmarked, but with “66-7” carved into the upper front. In summary, decent looking cards with dozens displaying better than their technical grades.
There are a dozen lower-than-VG examples, including 23-Giacomin (G) and 80-Horton (P).
