Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction February 2025
A product of the University of New Hampshire who originally went undrafted, Casey DeSmith turned professional with the Wheeling Nailers of the ECHL during the 2015-16 season. Having played nearly 200 games in the National Hockey League during his career thus far for the likes of the Pittsburgh Penguins, Vancouver Canucks and Dallas Stars, offered here is this "Winter Classic" style Penguins jersey worn by DeSmith during the 2022-23 season that has been photo-matched! Made by Adidas, a band displaying both "Made in Canada" and size "58G" designations is affixed to the inner collar above a screened on Prime Green designation while the crests of both the NHL and Adidas grace the front and reverse necklines respectively. An homage to the uniforms worn by the first NHL team to call Pittsburgh home, the Pirates, during the 1920s, the front of the jersey is decorated with a large dual layer yellow-over-black "P" that has been administered in a felt construction and affixed with a vintage style stitching pattern. Styled over the sleeves and verso with DeSmith's number "1" in matching style yellow-over-black felt construction numerals, "DeSmith" has been spelt out in single layer black felt letters across the affixed matching nameplate at the top of the reverse. Retaining its fight strap on the interior which has had a Penguins hologram numbered "448349R" affixed to it, a team tag heat-pressed inside the reverse hem denotes the jersey as being a "Winter Classic - Official 2022 Game Worn Jersey - Set 2 - Away 2022" example. Displaying light but clear game wear, puck marks are found over the front and left sleeve. Regarding the photo-matches, the jersey is matched with Getty Image #1474203799 (March 11th, 2023 vs Philadelphia) which shows the puck mark on the left sleeve while Getty Image #1248042197 (March 11th, 2023 vs Philadelphia) shows a match to the puck mark through the front crest.
