Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction June 2025
A defensive stalwart for the Penguins, Brooks Orpik was selected 18th overall in the 2000 NHL
Entry Draft after a standout career at Boston College, where he led the Eagles to a national
championship in 2001. Making his NHL debut in 2002-03, Orpik became a fixture on
Pittsburgh’s blue line, known for his punishing hits, shot-blocking, and leadership. In 2008-09,
Orpik was a key contributor to Pittsburgh’s Stanley Cup run, anchoring the defense and leading
the team in hits during the playoffs. His physical play and shutdown presence against top
opposition helped the Penguins clinch their first championship since 1992. Orpik would go on to
play 703 games with the Penguins over 11 seasons, finishing his career with over 1,000 NHL
games and a second Stanley Cup with Washington in 2018.
This size 56 Reebok jersey features the NHL crest on the front neckline and the Reebok crest
on the reverse. Orpik’s number “44” is styled in white-over-navy tackle twill on the arms and
back, with “ORPIK” in matching lettering on a baby blue nameplate. The assistant captain’s “A”
is displayed over the left breast.
A Penguins team patch sewn into the reverse hem reads “2008-2009 Throwback Third Jersey” and includes the team equipment manager’s name. The fight strap is signed in blue marker by Dana Heinze the equipment manager. Game wear includes a stick mark on the right elbow, a brown stain on the right sleeve, a stick mark on the left arm, and a noticeable mark below the back number. The back numbers "44" are showing a light, but noticeable, imprint from a Penguins team crest. The jersey comes with a team COA signed by the equipment manager and VP of Sales.
