Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction June 2025
Instrumental in helping to open the doors to North America for future players as one of the first European-born players to grace the NHL, Borje Salming played with Brynäs IF in his native Sweden before making his NHL debut with the Toronto Maple Leafs in 1973-74. The King would play the overwhelming majority of his HOF career in Ontario, with his final swan song season spent with the Detroit Red Wings in 1989-90. Still holding a number of Maple Leafs career and single-season records, offered here is this stick used by Salming during his swan song season with Detroit during the 1989-90 season. A Sher-Wood PMP 7000 model with “Salming” stamped to the upper shaft, the stick retains its original red tape job around the handle, knob and shaft while black remains wrapped around the blade as well. Also sporting a pair of factory production stamps on the underside of the lower shaft near the heel, the stick displays with good game-wear through a number of marks and abrasions throughout its entirety, including evidence of use from Salming's gloves over both the handle/knob and shaft tape while both sides of the blade tape show a number of puck marks as well.
