Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction June 2025
Receiving the first million dollar signing bonus in hockey history, Bobby Hull signed with the Winnipeg Jets to the dismay of the NHL in 1972, with the superstar arguably the biggest draw the rebel league ever acquired. Putting up fifty-one (51) goals in sixty-three (63) games played during the league's first year of play and finishing with a total of 103 points overall, offered here is this stick used by Hull as a member of the Jets during the WHA's inaugural season of 1972-73. A Northland made twig that is void of any graphics over either side of the shaft, a faint "B. Hull" name stamp appears over the top side while a pattern number reading "1178" is found stamped on the underside of the lower shaft near the heel. Also having had Hull's number "9" penned over the upper shaft in black and red marker ink, with the red marker, possibly an after the fact addition. The stick is sporting Hull's familiar banana hook curved blade, the retains its original black tape job around the notched handle and blade while the red, white and blue striping accents are still firmly affixed to the bottom of the shaft as well. Displaying "Larson Industries Inc." stamps over either side of the upper shaft and signed by Hull over the forehand side with a large black marker ink signature that displays without issue, the stick remains structurally sound and shows game-use via some dark marks and abrasions throughout the length of the shaft as well as over the lower shaft, heel and blade while both sides of the blade tape show some marks as well, along with some wear to the underside and an crack in the wood visible on the tip of the blade which is worth noting for accuracy.
