Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction February 2025
One of the most famous events in Stanley Cup history, the 1964 Finals featured the Toronto Maple Leafs taking on the Detroit Red Wings. With the Red Wings up 3 games to 2, Game 6 was played on April 23rd, and it ended in a 3-3 tie. Bobby Baun fractured his ankle during the match and was carried off the ice. To everyone's surprise, the determined Baun returned during overtime to score the winning goal, forcing a 7th game which was won by the Leafs 4-0. From his personal collection, we have a group of 116 pencil sketch lithos of the famous April 23, 1964 incident, with 11 signed by Baun in blue ink, with "April 23, 1964" handwritten (11 1/2" x 14 1/2"). The lot also contains 50 In Glas Co Leafs pucks with each signed in silver, with Baun adding "S.C.C. 1962, 63, 64 & 67" (one puck is a Leafs All-Star game puck). An LOA from the Baun family will accompany.
