Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction November 2024
Enjoying a four (4) year college hockey career with the Boston College Eagles of the NCAA between 1982 and 1986, Bob Sweeney would be drafted 123rd overall by his hometown Boston Bruins at the 1982 NHL Entry Draft and go on to play in 639 National Hockey League games over the course of his career with the likes of Boston, Buffalo, New York and Calgary. Offered here, we present this photo-matched Bruins jersey worn by Sweeney during the 1990 Stanley Cup Finals against the Edmonton Oilers. Made by CCM, a Maska Air-Knit label displaying a penned size "52" designation is affixed to the inner collar while the logos of both the CCM and NHL have been embroidered into the reverse hem, opposite a Custom Crafted logo as well. Decorated over the front with Boston's familiar spoked "B" team crest in layered tackle twill, the all-important 1990 Stanley Cup Finals patch has been sewn on over the right breast and matching alternate logo crests have been placed atop of both shoulders. Styled over the sleeves and verso with Sweeney's number "20" in dual layer black-over-yellow tackle twill numerals, "B. Sweeney" has been spelt out in matching style letters across the affixed matching nameplate at the top of the reverse. Retaining its fight strap on the interior, the jersey shows good game-wear including stick marks over the front, reverse and both sleeves while both sleeves display battle scars in the form of numerous team repairs and board burns plus small unrepaired holes, with most over the left sleeve. Also showing pilling around the hem, a large team repair over the right shoulder, a stick mark over the left shoulder, small yellow coloured board paint transfers over the right sleeve and pilling on the interior, the jersey comes with an LOA and a photo-match.com certificate that states the jersey is matched with Getty Image #52286963 (1990 Stanley Cup Finals vs Edmonton) to the loose/extra bit of black thread at the top right portion of the "Y" in "Sweeney". Additionally, the image also shows a match to the dark stick marks over the right forearm as well as the team repair that is directly to the right of them.
