The New York Islanders repeated as Campbell Conference champions in 1978-79, topping their previous season's totals with a franchise-record 51 wins and 116 points. In fact, the Islanders finished first overall in the NHL, one point ahead of the Prince of Wales champion Montreal Canadiens, who would go on to win their fourth straight Stanley Cup after the New York Rangers derailed the Islanders' Cup dreams in the playoffs. Bob Bourne enjoyed his second straight 30-goal season for the Islanders and this is the original Clarence S. Campbell Bowl trophy that was presented to him by the NHL. This silver-plated cup has handles on both sides and a removable lid. It stands atop a 3" high wooden base with green felt underneath. The cup's bowl has "New York Islanders 1978 - 79 Bob Bourne" engraved on one side. The other side sports a couple of errors. The name of the trophy is misspelled, "Clarance (sic) S. Campbell Bowl" and the year 1966 is also engraved although the trophy was first awarded in 1968. The bowl exhibits a bit of tarnish on the lip of the cup and on the left side of the bowl while the lid has light tarnishing. This fantastic trophy comes with Bob Bourne's signed letter of authenticity.
