Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction Spring 2025
Posting two of the greatest seasons ever played by an NHL netminder, Bernie Parent was awarded both the Vezina and Conn Smythe Trophies for his dominant performances in 1974 and 1975 respectively, helping to lead the Philadelphia Flyers to back-to-back Stanley Cup championships. Winning a total of 271 games in the National Hockey League over the course of his career and inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1984, offered here is this stick used by Parent that hails from his first stint in "The City of Brotherly Love" when the Flyers were just starting up. A Northland Pro model offering with "Parent" stamped over the shaft, additional stamps from team equipment supplier "Mitchell & Ness" appear over both sides of the upper shaft as well. Retaining its original black wrapping around the handle/knob, the black tape seen over the blade is different from Bernie's usual tape job and looks like a replacement tape job done by someone after they came into possession of the stick, likely doing so for their own use. With the accent stripping stickers around the paddle tattered and sporting a thin striping pattern at the top of the paddle in black tape, the stick shows heavy use, with much of it likely occurring after being used by Parent himself, via puck marks, abrasions, dents from shots and red post paint transfer marks throughout. Also sporting some cracks in the paddle to the wood and fiberglass and missing wood felt at the heel underneath the current tape job, Parent has signed the stick over the paddle on the forehand side with a black marker ink signature that displays without issue, adding a year of 1966-67 in matching ink. Of note, the stick is not from that year as Parent was still with the Bruins and Mitchell & Ness was not their equipment provider.
