Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction February 2025
The first overall pick of the 2016 NHL Entry Draft by the Toronto Maple Leafs, Auston Matthews has been the corner stone of the Maple Leafs franchise since the first moment he donned the blue and white, winning the Calder Memorial Trophy in 2017 and the Hart Memorial Trophy in 2022. Also winning the Maurice "Rocket" Richard Trophy on three (3) occasions (2021, 2022 and 2024), potting sixty-nine (69) goals during the 2023-24 season, Matthews would post another four (4) points in five (5) games played during the 2024 Stanley Cup Playoffs against the Boston Bruins. Offered here, and hailing from his aforementioned sixty-nine (69) goal season is this pair of gloves worn by Matthews for four (4) games between December 14th and December 21st in which he posted five (5) goals and an assist. CCM made "Pro" model gauntlets in Toronto's familiar blue and white colourway, "Papi 34" identifiers have been screened on over the cuff of each glove while "CCM" logos have been embroidered into the cuff of both gloves as well. Having been personalized by the American born sniper with a handwritten star and number "18" in over each palm, penned by Matthews himself in black marker ink, the gloves show just light wear via some rubbing in both palms and some minor marks on the outside of both gloves, including a small rip/tear to one section on the outside of the left hand. Having had a Maple Leafs inventory barcode numbered "TMLAM3400073" heat-pressed on the inside of each wrist, matching what is listed on the accompanying Maple Leafs LOA, the gloves have been photo-matched with Getty Image #1848362572 (December 14th, 2023 vs Columbus - Auston's 2nd goal of the game) to the previously mentioned small tear on the outside of the left hand and to the placement of the star in the right palm, though it is not the clearest as it is not the focal point of the image.
