Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction February 2025
His first of 14 consecutive 100+ point seasons as a professional, Wayne Gretzky took the WHA by storm during his lone year in the rebel league, finishing third in scoring while leading the Edmonton Oilers to the Avco Cup finals vs the Winnipeg Jets. Netting 10 goals during the playoffs, Wayne scored the first of his career on April 27th, in Game 2 of the semifinals vs his idol Gordie Howe and the New England Whalers, and we offer an Edmonton Coliseum stub from the match graded FR 1.5 by PSA. The Oilers would win the game 9-5, with Gretzky scoring his marker at 4:18 of the first, with three assists also added for a four-point night. The Great One finished the 1979 playoffs as the point leader (20) and goal leader (10), tied with Willy Lindstrom. The stub lists "Play-Off 1979" and "Game 2", with the original purchase price of $6.50 (approx $25.00 in 2024 dollars). There is an uneven tear to the ticket, along with what appears to be a stain from tape on the reverse. This is the only ticket from this game graded by PSA.
