Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction June 2025
One of the first Russians to have his name engraved on the Stanley Cup, Alexei Kovalev scored over 1,000 points in his 1,316 NHL matches, while also representing his nation on the international stage. Drafted by the New York Rangers in 1991, from his sophomore year, we have a video-matched Rangers jersey worn by Kovalev during the Stanley Cup championship season of 1993-94. Gerry Cosby and CCM labeling along with a size 52 fly tag remain affixed to the collar, with embroidered NHL and CCM crests over the back bottom hem. Styled with the familiar “Rangers” placed diagonally across the chest in dual-colour drop-shadow tackle twill, the mesh V-neck has been embellished with “27” across the sleeves and verso in matching material. The fight strap is intact, with a Cosby label over the top attachment. Game-wear is heavy, with puck and stick marks over the front and sleeves and burn and transfer marks to the sleeves. A few small stains are visible, with numerous team repairs present including over the front band (one large repair), to the reverse (2), left (5) and right (one large repair) sleeves. There is also a tear to the left cuff at the seam. An included video from the Rangers 8-3 victory over the New Jersey Devils on Dec 26, 1993, has been matched; to the black mark under the "E" of "RANGERS" on the front, and to the horizontal black mark on the inside on the upper right sleeve. Also interesting to note, this game featured Mike Gartner scoring his 600th goal, with Kovalev assisting. A still shot photo from the video, and the video itself as mentioned will be included, along with an LOA and COR from MeiGray.
