Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction February 2025
A standout with the New York Rangers throughout the late-1930s and early-1940s, Alex Shibicky helped lead the Blueshirts to the Stanley Cup in 1940. We offer a contract for his partial season in the Canadian–American Hockey League in 1935-36 with the Philadelphia Ramblers signed by Shibicky, Art Ross and Lester Patrick, a Shibicky player release/transfer from 1947 signed by Frank Boucher, and a document on New Haven Ramblers letterhead from 1948 from Lynn Patrick (signed as just "Lynn" in blue ink) regarding a back injury to Shibicky that Patrick claims might just be a "case of wolf, wolf" (crying wolf, as in the injury is not legitimate). The Ramblers contract calls for a salary of $1000.00 which includes a $100.00 bonus (just over $23,000.00 in 2024 dollars), with the signatures of Ross and Patrick flawless. It should be noted that while the contract is for November to April, Shibicky was called up to the Rangers in January and stayed for the rest of the season, playing in 18 games. He would then start the following season in Manhattan, and stay until 1941-42, serve three years in the military, and return for a final season with the club in 1945-46.
