Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction February 2025
Playing just seven (7) games in the QMJHL before heading south of the border to experience a four (4) year career with the Miami University RedHawks, Alain Chevrier would turn pro with the Fort Wayne Komets of the IHL during the 1984-85 season and go on to play a total of 234 National Hockey League games during his career with the likes of New Jersey, Winnipeg, Chicago, Pittsburgh and Detroit. Offered here, we present this jersey worn by Chevrier as a member of the Devils during the 1987-88 season, specifically during the 1988 Stanley Cup Playoffs. Made by CCM and having had a tonal CCM logo embroidered into the reverse hem, the inner collar retains a partially washed out Maska Ultrafil label which displays a heavily faded size 54 designation in ballpoint pen ink. Decorated over the front of the jersey with New Jersey's familiar crest in a layered tackle twill style, the sleeves and verso have been accented with Chevrier's number "30" in dual layer white-over-green tackle twill numerals. Having had "Chevrier" spelt out in matching style letters that have been affixed directly to the material at the top of the reverse, it is important to note that green colour bleed from the bottom layer of green twill has come up through the white layer of both the numbers and letters on the sleeves/verso. Displaying wear despite not seeing any game action during that year's playoffs, a good sized team repair is found over the right sleeve while a couple puck marks are found through the front crest. Retaining its fight strap on the interior, the jersey also sports some marks/spot stains over the right sleeve while some small pulls/pills are found on the left sleeve and reverse, including one near the reverse hem that has resulted in a small unrepaired hole. A MeiGray LOA and COR will accompany the piece.
