Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction June 2025
Hall of Fame forward Adam Oates was a natural choice to succeed Dale Hunter as the Washington Capitals’ ninth captain prior to the 1999-2000 NHL season. The captain’s C is displayed on the right breast of this 2000-01 Capitals game jersey from the personal collection of Adam Oates. The jersey was made for Oates though never worn by him. It has Made in Canada and size 54 flag tags in the neck, the correct size for an Oates jersey with the Caps. There is a full fight strap inside the back, whereas Oates’ jerseys typically had the fight strap cut off, and there is no team tag in the hem. Otherwise, it is exactly the same as a game-worn jersey from that season. Most likely and extra/unused example, it is offered only as a “game” jersey. The jersey remains in wonderful, near-pristine condition and comes with a signed LOA from Adam Oates.
