Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction June 2025
Loads of team repairs to discover on Adam Oates’ photo-matched 1996-97 Bruins game-worn alternate captain’s jersey from the Hall of Fame center’s personal collection. Size 52-R patch is sewn on below the Starter NHL tagging in the back of the neck and Custom Crafted Boston Bruins 1st Set 1996-97 Season stamp sits inside the rear hem. Starter and NHL logos are embroidered on the right rear hem. Typical of Oates gamers there is no fight strap inside the jersey, though where most of those were cut off there is not sign that there was ever a fight strap affixed to this game-worn jersey. There is a clear outline of the previously affixed alternate captain's "A". There are some 30 (!) team repairs throughout the jersey, many of which have material-backed sewing fixes with both sleeves and the front tail covered with extensive threadwork and patching! The jersey exhibits good pilling on the interior behind the team's crest and on the sleeves/elbows and more game wear shows in big black marks on the right sleeve and front tail and a spot of red paint transfer on the left sleeve. A pair of images from the 1996-97 season shown on this listing are both showing: 1) the perfect placement of the team's crest, which is slightly placed to the right of the jersey in correlation with the lower middle point of the collar; 2) the details of the team's crest, particularly the placement/spacing of the yellow material on the inside of the "B"; 3) the placement of the alternate captain's "A" (now removed); and 3) the placement of the number "12" and the bear patch on the left sleeve/shoulder with the slightly angled top portion of the "2" also visible. Though none of these particularities by themselves would be good enough to consider the jersey to be photo-matched, we believe that with all of the aforementioned particularities showing on the images and on the jersey that it is indeed photo-matched. Comes with Adam Oates’ signed LOA.
