An ultra-intriguing opportunity to secure the ultra-desirable, highest-valued rookie card, by far, of young superstar Connor McDavid presents itself here, with this gorgeous example of Connor’s “The Cup” RC featuring several alluring attributes. Aesthetically-pleasing are the image of the Oilers’ leader, the tri-color swatch below his photo and McDavid’s blue ink autograph. “GEM MINT” is also very pleasing to perceive on the Beckett label, up from the “17/99” serial number near the upper right corner of the card. The sub grades are also to note: Centering 9, Corners 9.5, Edges 9.5, Surface 9.5, with the holder itself free of visible scratches. Meanwhile, the back of the label assigns a grade to the autograph; a perfect “10”, while the back of the card includes McDavid’s statistics for his last year of junior hockey with the Erie Otters, along with his three-season Ontario Hockey League totals. The heralded young phenom potted 44 goals and racked up 120 points in just 47 games in 2014-15. As for grading statistics, Beckett reports that, as of this writing, it had encapsulated 55 such cards, with none of them scoring higher than this 9.5 Gem Mint treasure, joined by 17 other 9.5s. Other owners have submitted their McDavid The Cup rookies to Beckett, with (26) receiving marks of Mint 9 and (11) slabbed NM-MT+ 8.5. PSA population numbers indicate that the firm has encapsulated just four such cards; two merited Gem Mint 10 recognition, with one Mint 9 and one NM-MT 8 also in existence. The pictures and numbers all add up to a terrific and extremely infrequent opportunity here to add to your big-time hockey card portfolio. Good luck with this ultra-special collectible.
