Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction Spring 2025
The highest of high end products to be released during Upper Deck's hockey cycle and hailing from a year that saw perhaps the most hyped up rookie class since the years of either Sid, Ovi and Lundqvist or Kane, Price and Toews, offered here is this sealed case of Upper Deck's 2015-16 "The Cup" release. The swiftest on a sheet of ice in recent years is Edmonton Oilers’ unstoppable superstar Connor McDavid, his speed and skill dropping the jaws of many on many a night and helping procure the superstar five NHL scoring championships so far. Connor’s most important and valuable official rookie cards are the 99 that were included in The Cup’s 2015-16 issue and which have attained five figures at auction. Even the novices should get it by now – one such McDavid autographed rookie patch RC could be the jackpot inside of this box. If the new owner decides to play a high-stakes opening game, he/she will discover a tin in each box, with each tin/pack containing six (6) cards. Numerous other impressive/valuable cards are also a possibility, with notably two autographed patch cards in every tin/pack, one of them an official RC. Other notable 2015-16 The Cup rookie cards are those of Eichel, Panarin, Rantanen, Ehlers, Larkin, Hellebuyck and Saros. Featuring a total of six (6) boxes on the interior and stamped on the outside of the box with "85034", an additional stamp reading "405-6 CT" appears over the bottom. Also displaying a partially unglued sticker over one side that reads "15/16 UD THE CUP HK 6 tins/1 pack/6 cards" and other stickers including a shipping sticker on one end of the box, the box remains sealed with factory tape on both the top and bottom of the box with a red circular sticker later applied over the factory tape on the top of the box. The box shows wear to the corners and edges, including some dings to the corners and a puncture ding/small rip over one edge on the bottom. Good luck with this formidable booty that offers several options.
Addendum; Upon further review of the case and its specifics, an industry professional was able to confirm to us that the case is found to be in its original state and that the circular red sticker currently affixed to the top of the case is likely something that hails from a third party and possibly even GTS Distribution itself, one of the biggest wholesalers in the industry and who the case was originally sent to by Upper Deck based on the shipping label that is affixed to the one side. Additionally, upon review we can see the outline of the silver foil Upper Deck sticker underneath the red circular one affixed over it and when compared with the silver foil sticker found on the bottom, the two (2) match up without issue. Furthermore, it was confirmed to us by the same industry professional that the doubled up light/dark print of the diamond pattern over the Upper Deck tape sealing the case is nothing of concern and that it can be seen on other sealed cases in the hobby, with them confirming that sometimes the ink of the tape doesn’t sit that good on the polyester film it is made of and that this is what happens in that process.
