Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction June 2023

The fifth and final Canada Cup tournament, the 1991 edition marked the only time that a team went undefeated as Canada would compile a final record of 6 wins and 2 ties in 8 games played. Matched up against the United States in best-of-three final, Canada would sweep the American’s 2-0 despite losing Wayne Gretzky to injury during the first game. Up for grabs here, is this collection of memorabilia from the tournament. First off, we have a 1991 Canada Cup game puck that has been signed over the front by the aforementioned Gretzky. Displaying heavily worn “Labatt Coupe Canada Cup” and “1991 R.A. Eagleson Tournament Chairman” decals over each side, the puck shows surface wear over both faces as well as signs of use in the form of scratches and a number of small cuts/gashes. Gretzky has signed over the tournament logo side with a black marker ink signature that shows well despite some age and light wear. Next, we have a ticket stub from game 2 of the finals against the USA in which Canada would clinch the Cup by a 4-2 score. Measuring approx. 3 ½” x 2” and displaying the tournament title, section/seat information, venue, date, time as well as “Final Game 2” and the original price of $47.25, the stub displays with toning and light warping as a few creases at the right side. Lastly, we have a program from the tournament to conclude the lot. Still complete at 88 pages, the book shows surface wear to both the front and back covers along with spine wear, edge wear, creasing, some warping to the bottom right corner and light toning on the interior. A wonderful trio of items from a tournament that featured the world’s best, don’t miss out on these.
