Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction February 2025
One of the most important sets in the sports card hobby, the 1986-87 Fleer basketball release was the sport's first traditional set in five years and boasted a checklist of rookie cards from several all-time greats, including Michael Jordan. One of the most collected and valuable sets every produced, offered here is this complete set of 1986-87 Fleer basketball. Complete with all 132 cards making up the checklist present and accounted for, the assembly is paced by a freshly grade copy of Michael Jordan's sought after rookie card, which has been assessed a mark of NM 7 for its effort at PSA. Retaining excellent colours, smooth edges, sharp corners and clean surfaces when viewed with the naked eye, the image of Jordan seen over the front displays off-center from left-to-right. For the rest of the set, seen as being in a high-grade state averaging out to EX-MT to NM throughout its entirety, key cards found to be in this grade state include those of 1-Abdul-Jabbar, 7-Barkley RC, 9-Bird, 26-Drexler RC, 31-Erving, 32-Ewing RC, 53-Johnson, 68-Malone RC, 77-Mullin RC, 82-Olajuwon RC, 109-Thomas RC and 121-Wilkins RC. With the checklist card found in its original unmarked state and the other stars found throughout in a condition that is consistent with those listed above, the offered assembly also comes accompanied by a near-complete 1986-87 Fleer basketball sticker set that is missing only those of 1-Abdul-Jabbar and 8-Jordan. For the stickers that do come with the lot, they are found to be in a condition similar to the cards though the example of Julius Erving has a scratch over its surface that is worth noting for accuracy.
