Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction November 2023
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 11/28/2023
Already dubbed “Le Magnifique” prior to his big league debut, Montreal native Mario Lemieux did not disappoint in his first NHL campaign following his record-breaking junior career with the Laval Voisins, his rookie season statistics of 43 goals and an even 100 points appearing here on the back of this attractive 1985-86 Topps rookie card. The young star then thoroughly impressed his peers with 141 points (second only to Gretzky) in his second season ('85-86), evidenced by them voting Lemieux recipient of the Lester B. Pearson Trophy as the league's outstanding player as selected by the NHL Players' Association, ending a four-year run by Edmonton's #99. Having been deemed worthy of a NM 7 designation by the graders at SGC. Showing attributes expected of a high-grade card such as excellent centering (slightly off from right-to-left), vivid colours, sharp corners, smooth edges and a clean reverse side, the front shows print lines extending down the right side of the card. Housed in an SGC holder that remains in excellent condition, don’t miss out on this one!
