Edmonton Oilers Auction 2005
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 12/16/2005
With Wayne Gretzky leading the way the Edmonton Oilers came out on top of the Smythe Division with a record of 47-21-12 for the regular season. The team charged into the playoffs and the Oilers made quick work of the Winnipeg Jets, taking the opening series in three straight to get off to a flying start. In the Smythe Finals Edmonton doused the Calgary Flames in five games. This proved to be a high scoring series in which the Oilers scored 35 goals against their Alberta rivals. Andy Moog played a huge part in these series and Mark Messier's game winner on April 20th would clinch the team their first Smythe Division Championship. Direct from the rafters of the Edmonton Coliseum, now Rexall Place, we offer the original Smythe Division Championship banner, hung to celebrate and commemorate the Edmonton Oilers 1982-83 post-season title. This massive double-sided orange nylon banner measuring approximately 4 by 12 feet, proudly displays the team logo with "NHL Smythe Division" above and "Champions 82-83" below. All logos, lettering and numbering have been individually applied to this historical one-of-a-kind display. From the archives of the Edmonton Oilers Hockey Club, with accompanying letter of authenticity on team letterhead signed by Oilers General Manager Kevin Lowe.
