Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction February 2018

How do you feel about an instant hoard or an instant inventory of Wayne Gretzky O-Pee-Chee rookie cards and accompanying 395-card groups? That’s what’s on the auction block here and perfect for those not requiring tiptop condition. Two of the twelve Gretzky rookies are superior to the rest, with no unsightly creases through the image of The Great One, with however enough peripheral creasing and wear to send them to the G to G+ range. A half-dozen are downright Poor, with either multiple creases or, as is the case with three of them, corner/border touch-ups done with a blue marker(!). Four others are Fair, with not-so-drastic creasing. As for the rest of the 3900-plus cards, they’re overall much better, but with condition that ranges all over the board. Our consignor has pulled the Howes, Hulls, Bossys, checklists, team checklists, RCs and other better cards and wrapped the rest into “bricks”. Although intermittent NM-or-better cards show up, we would say that VG, VG+, VG-EX and EX are the dominant grades. Other than the Gretzky RCs, it’s somewhat of a big surprise box that the winning bidder has to look forward to. How do you feel about “blue”?!
