Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction June 2018
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/19/2018
Wayne Gretzky, the phenomenal teenager from Brantford, Ontario who took the NHL by storm the same season as this O-Pee-Chee rookie card was pulled from a wax pack, went on to pulverize the league's record book and propel his first official cardboard appearance to forever-in-demand status. This example of card #18 from 1979-80 has been examined by KSA and awarded a mark of NMM 8. Other than the not-perfect side-to-side centering, the naked eye spots some white on the lower right edge, to the right of the Oilers logo. The Great One's first pro season stats are included on the back and inform of a 46-goal, 110-point year in the World Hockey Association. Desirable cardboard awaits its new appreciative home while conjuring up memories of an extraordinary unparalleled career.
