Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction June 2025
Teammates first at Indianapolis in 1978-79, Wayne Gretzky and Mark Messier would team up for nine seasons as Edmonton Oilers, becoming key cogs in the Edmonton squads that would win a total of four (4) Stanley Cup championships with both of them in the lineup, the pair would reunite for a single season on Broadway with the Blueshirts in 1996-97. Offered here, we present this pair of Edmonton Oilers postcards individually picturing both players that were released during their rookie season of 1979-80 which have been individually signed by each player. oth pictured in their white Oilers uniform in posed on-ice shots, the fronts of both postcards feature the facsimile signature of the respective featured player while the reverses display their names, position, height, weight and birthday as well as "Edmonton Oilers" and an Oilers logo. Both measuring approximately 3 3/8" x 5 1/4" and presenting in overall good condition with some expected edge and corner wear seen on both offerings, which is perhaps heavier on the Messier example, Gretzky has signed over the front of his postcard with a purple coloured marker ink signature that shows some smudging while Messier has signed over the reverse of his with a blue ballpoint pen ink autograph that is in good condition and displays without issue. With the Messier autograph also including an inscription reading "To Dan, Good Luck in 82" in matching ink, each autograph has been certified by JSA, with the company's sticker applied over the bottom right corner on the reverse of each and coming accompanied by matching COA cards.
