Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction February 2025
A coup for the city of Montreal as the first Canadian locale to host the Olympics, the 1976 Summer Games witnessed the Soviets dominate with 125 total medals, followed by the East Germans with 90. This lot contains a 1976 Montreal Olympics $100 gold proof coin in it's original box. Legal tender, the attractive 1” coin is constructed of 22 karat gold and carries a $100.00 face value, with a Classical Greece scene on the obverse along with mention of the 21st Olympiad, with a traditional image of Queen Elizabeth II on the reverse. Currently selling in the $1,000.00 range, there is just a minor amount of surface wear, with the coin displaying wonderfully overall. Accompanied by its original 3 ¾” x 3 ¾” wooden box with leather flip top with serial numbered COA in the box as well as the cardboard outer box, a Canadian coat of arms is embossed into the flip top.
