Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction - June 2009
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/16/2009
Fabulous edition of "Mike, The Memoirs of the Rt. Hon. Lester B. Pearson, Vol. 1" details the early years of the former Prime Minister of Canada. A great book on its own merit... but open the cover to find a page holding the inscribed "L B Pearson" autograph. The only Canadian ever to win the Nobel Peace Prize (1957), Pearson was leader of Canada from 1963 to 1968 and a passionate hockey fan. He had previously played for the Oxford Canadians while in London and coached the University of Toronto varsity team. The NHL Players Association introduced the Lester B. Pearson Award in 1971, the prestigious award going to the NHL's outstanding performer as voted by the league's players. Boston's Phil Esposito was the first winner in '70-71, while Pearson died in December 1972, rendering his signature a coveted find.
